Auction Yard Cafe - Alturas

We visited Auction Yard Cafe to catch up with a friend, and we will definitely return for the food! WOW! Everything was made from scratch and tasted amazing. The portions were generous and satisfying. I ordered an omelet with bacon, and instead of just a hint of bacon, I received several delicious, hearty pieces. My husband said his pancakes were the best he's ever had, and I have to agree! I could keep raving about this place... The only downside is that they don't operate 24/7!

The atmosphere here is warm and inviting, with just a few bar stools—maybe three or four—situated close to the counter, allowing you to enjoy coffee while watching Cheryl work her culinary magic. This spot is easy to overlook (I initially missed it) because it doesn't really appear to be a typical dining establishment. However, it’s a favorite among the locals! Additionally, there are auctions held on the first and third Saturdays of the month at noon.

The portions are generous and the food is hearty, giving it a classic, old-school vibe. The chicken fried steak is truly the best I've ever had, without a doubt. The staff are friendly, although the farmers who frequent the place can be a bit grumpy, but that doesn’t really bother me. If you're looking for a place to satisfy your hunger, this is definitely the spot!

Home Style Cooking! The burgers are not stuck together by a frozen bag of mysterious meat. They are hand-patterned, just like at home! There are also soups great. Whether you've just left your horse, the cows have moved all day or raised in this shiny Lexus, go in, you won't be disappointed whatever you're a Hichnering for!

The Auction Yard Cafe is the place to eat while in Alturas! The wait was a little long because of the smaller kitchen, and only seats about 30 people at a time. Floor was a little stucky... but meh, not a big deal. Food did not all come out together but pretty close, it was hot and fresh! Wendy our server was amazing and kept up with the rush, and made sure we were all doing good. Coffee was a bit strong for my liking, hot coco was really good! Very highly recommended!
