While I'm not particularly fond of this style of sushi, they do have some more traditional rolls available. The sushi chefs are friendly and willing to create custom rolls, demonstrating their expertise in the craft. Additionally, I really enjoy the tuna tartare appetizer.
Their simple veggie rolls aren't on the menu, however if you ask for avocado cucumber rolls, they are $3 dollars each! You can't beat that. This is definitely going to be my go to sushi place in Austin.
I had an incredible experience at WuWu! Tucked away on the East side of Austin, TX, this hidden gem blends culture with a trendy elegance. The staff was exceptionally friendly and made my date and me feel right at home with their warmth and humor. It was as if we were relaxing in my living room with longtime friends. The chef even managed to recreate a special roll that I had designed myself while living in Denver, which was impressive! The prices were very reasonable, and the restaurant met all my culinary cravings for the evening. Thank you all!
We asked our server for sushi recommendations, and she suggested four of her favorites. We ended up ordering all four rolls she recommended, along with two additional rolls and some appetizers. The appetizers arrived quickly and were quite tasty! We enjoyed the edamame, Hawaiian tartare (tuna), and shumai—all were excellent. However, I do have a concern about how long it took for the sushi rolls to be served. Granted, we ordered six rolls, but that doesn’t seem excessive, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t overly busy. After finishing our appetizers, we waited well over 50 minutes for the rolls to arrive. While the rolls were delicious, we still felt a bit hungry after finishing them, and didn’t want to wait another 50 minutes for more. So, we decided to close out our check and leave. I've heard from other friends who visited that they had similar experiences—great food, but the wait time was just too long. It’s a shame because you can really taste the quality the sushi chef puts into making the rolls. In summary, the food (both the appetizers and rolls) was delightful! You could truly appreciate the high quality of the ingredients and the chef’s dedication to crafting each roll. The service was good too; everyone was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the main downside was the lengthy wait for the food. I'm planning to return in a month to see if the timing has improved. If you do decide to visit, I recommend ordering extra appetizers and sake to help pass the time while waiting for the rolls!
This might be the best kept sushi secret in Austin. Great atmosphere, amazing sushi, all local and Japanese beers, friendly and accommodating staff, and reasonable prices.
