Oba Contemporary Japanese - Des Plaines

This is my first negative review as I am extremely disappointed with my experience. I used to love dining at this restaurant. The first time we came, we were pleasantly surprised by the delicious dragon rolls. However, on our second visit today, they actually asked us to leave because we had a 2-year-old child with us. They informed us before we sat down that he couldn't be seated because he wasn't vaccinated. We even showed them the official page stating that the vaccination requirement is only for children 5 years and older, but they were so concerned about upsetting other customers that the chef rudely told us to leave. I offered to explain to anyone who complained, but the server was too flustered. I understand that they may not be properly informed, but they are losing a lot of customers by enforcing a rule that isn't even accurate. I am so disappointed by this experience that I will never return to this once-favorite sushi restaurant of mine. It's a shame.

I highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious sushi at a reasonable price. The cozy and well-furnished interior adds to the overall dining experience.

I have visited numerous sushi restaurants in Chicago and beyond, and this one is among the best I have experienced. Despite its small size, the restaurant exudes a romantic ambiance. The food is exceptional, with incredible sauces that elevate each dish. The nigiri and rolls are truly standout, surpassing those of other sushi establishments in terms of taste, quality, and presentation. Overall, this sushi restaurant is a hidden gem and truly excellent in every way.

I really like this place, but they have made some ideas there with business hours and definitiw losing customers of it. this was earlier the place for late night sushi now close them at 9

We come here for lunch a lot. The drinks are good. They have good Sake selections. Sushi is really yummy, but I really love the Chicken Bento Box, they give you a lot of food. I like the salad they always give you and then ice cream at the end!Clean and lovely place. It is small though, so before Covid, it was always yam packed.
