We weren’t greeted with a smile or even basic pleasantries like 'please' or 'thank you'. In fact, my elderly mother asked for a tea when we placed our order, but when the food arrived 20 minutes later, she had to ask again for the tea. The server pointed at her and told her to wait because it was on the way. Who treats a customer like that? We wouldn't snap our fingers at someone, so why would she? When it was time to pay, I mentioned that I would pay by card. She turned around and said, "Well, we prefer cash, but if you don't have any, card will have to do." If I had cash or wanted to pay in cash, I would have done so. It’s 2023; technology has improved, and you have a card machine right on the bar. Given the service we received, we won't be returning. It's hard to understand how you can treat customers this way and expect them to come back.
1. The staff was quite unfriendly, to put it mildly. It lacked the warmth of typical Irish hospitality and welcoming smiles. Even with the place being completely empty, it felt like no one cared about our visit. 2. Now, onto the food. We started with a bowl of the soup of the day to share. I ordered a cold meat salad while my husband chose the beef burger. Unfortunately, the vegetable soup was awful; it tasted like it was loaded with artificial additives rather than actual vegetables. It had a glutinous texture and contained tiny bits of some unappetizing, dehydrated vegetables. It was really unappetizing. My salad, from the "light bites" section, was disappointing and hardly related to what I expected. The beef burger was decent, but it was extremely dry, and the salad was slathered in an excessive amount of mayonnaise. While the burger meat was acceptable, it seemed reheated in a microwave, which left it dry and tough. The cheese on top was the cheapest melted fat imaginable. The “ketchup” served with our meal bore no resemblance to actual ketchup; it was just a cheap, vinegary sauce you might find in a low-end store. The chips were tasteless, hard, and fried in old, unpleasant oil. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. Edit: I apologize, but it’s been a year since my visit, and I don’t remember the faces or names of the staff. I do recall there was an older man and an older woman working that day, but I could not recognize them now.
While our kitchen typically closes at 7 PM, don’t hesitate to give us a call—we’d never let a customer leave hungry, even late into the night. We're particularly well-known locally for our Bacon and Cabbage dinner, which we serve without white sauce because our dish is packed with flavor. Everything is made fresh, and Paddy takes pride in ensuring you leave with a smile. Our busiest hours are from 12 to 2 PM, but don’t let that prevent you from stopping by. You might wait a little longer than usual, but you’ll always be welcomed! We hope to see you soon, and if you mention that you found us on Google, we'll be sure to read your review as we value your feedback!
Like most country pubs, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with genuinely great people. The breakfast looked fantastic!
This restaurant is a hidden treasure, the pub I've always dreamed of. Yvonne is amazing!
