Highlander Mountain House The Ruffed Grouse Tavern

Happened by this gem while traveling through the Highlands on a hiking trip! We were first impressed when we were welcomed with our black lab. We travel everywhere with her, but find some places more dog friendly than others. The male waiter (kicking myself for forgetting his name) was fantastic! Took care of Penny, our dog, and us with care. He offered helpful recommendations about he menu and the town that were so appreciated. We started with the fish dip which was super flavorful. I had the lobster bisque and grown up grilled cheese. Yummy on a chilly day. My guy had the shrimp and grits. Both were delicious! My guy makes killer shrimp and grits, so his standards ar pretty high. This version was wonderful. Tender grits and shrimp with a little kick, yum! My fave, though, was the handcrafted blood orange margaritas!! Two each and we wobbled out. We will definitely be back when we find ourselves in this lovely area again.

Our food was great. I had the chicken Caesar salad and a cup of red pepper soup, very good. Also the crab cakes were very good.

The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The service was very friendly. Outdoor seating in nice weather.

Excellent Food Service. My friend and I ate supper here. I had the prime rib and it was delicious. My friend ate the chicken marsala. For her, there was to much sauce on it. A woman who was was working in the restaurant but not our waitress overheard my friend. She brought my friend a fresh bowl of pasta with no sauce. That is good service. Our food was so good. Then we had the homemade peanut butter pie. Holy moly. It was the best. Ever. Ever. Evvveeer. This is a wonderful place. We will be back.

Stopped in here for lunch while visiting the Highlands and loved it! We had the chicken pot pie and lump crab sandwich and both were outstanding! Our service was top notch and we loved the atmosphere and decor. Can’t say enough wonderful things about this restaurant, we will definitely return if in the area.
