Great little Indian restaurant in Moonah, very basic décor - but the food is very good, great place for take aways as well. Easy parking.
Around 7.15pm I ordered 2 curries in store for takeaway. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was relatively busy. I was told that it would take 45 minutes for my curries to be ready. This seemed on the long-side, however still acceptable. I returned at 8pm as organised. I was told to take a seat and that my order wouldn't be long. 35 minutes later I received the order, with very little apology or explanation as to the wait. If I wanted dinner at this time I would have just made it myself. I was not offered any discount or freebie which would have left me feeling a bit less bitter. When I got home our naans were cold, which was not surprising seeing as I watched them sit on a counter for 30 minutes while I waited for the curry. The curry was delicious, which makes this experience even more annoying as I am torn whether or not to return.
Have heard great things about Dawat and chef Jimmy, someone not afraid to spice things up. Jimmy was receptive and happy to chat about recipes, recommendations and level of spice in each dish. Some great dishes, goat curry, kofta, dahl and cheesy naan. Our group of 8 was well fed and we'd serviced, and yes, great value for money. Thanks Jimmy and gang. Definitely on my top 3 for Indian on Hobart.
Best Indian restaurant I've been to after 7 years in Australia. Very well executed and no holding back on spice and heat. Friendly family run business.
