I absolutely loved their mapo tofu, honey black pepper beef, bamboo shoots with pork, and the cold chicken in hot sauce! I'm so happy I had the chance to try these dishes from Grain House; they were all incredibly delicious! One of the best things was that none of the dishes were overly salty, so I didn't feel thirsty afterward. Even though it’s a bit of a distance from me, I will definitely order from them again when I'm craving good Chinese food! Thank you to the chefs for the amazing meal!
We discovered a promotion offering a complimentary dish of either kicked dumplings or soup dumplings with a dine-in purchase of $30. Although we weren't aware of this promotion at first, we soon realized that our order met the requirement. We tried the spicy fish fillet in chili oil, Dan noodles, spicy and sour soup, stir-fried green beans, and a spicy hot pot with fatty beef. The spicy and sour soup was a bit more acidic than I typically enjoy, but it was packed with vegetables. The hot pot was generously filled with a variety of vegetables, although some appeared overcooked or a bit mushy, like the broccoli. The highlight of the meal was definitely the fish fillet in chili oil, which came with plenty of bean sprouts and cabbage. All our pasta dishes were accompanied by rice, which was a nice touch. Overall, we had a wonderful experience thanks to the friendly staff. The food was decent for the area. One additional tip: paying in cash will give you an extra discount on your bill!
Delicious food, fast delivery, incredibly kind staff. Grew up in Beijing, China and this is the most authentic Chinese food in NYC after China Blue closed due to the pandemic. Order directly through Mealkeyway to avoid high postmates Uber eats fees!!
Good Chinese restaurant outside China town. I took my college age daughter and her room mate to this place and we had a feast. Clean interior, easy to find. Food was great. Price was ok. Everything we had was tasty and the portions were good, too. Only pet peeves for me was that the food were served in plastic dishes. That made the food look cheap. Also, I prefer to eat food from non plastic dishes especially at a restaurant like this.
As for the Mapo Tofu, it can vary from being salty and flavorful to sometimes bland. The tofu pieces can range from large chunks to well-cut smaller ones, and while they include greens and onions, I wish they were more generous with the portion size rather than just a piece or two. The amount of pork also changes! I've ordered these dishes around 10 times, and I've noticed this pattern. I hope they can make some adjustments without increasing the prices that have already risen since the pandemic. Overall, the prices seem a bit high. Speaking of prices, I think Grain House could offer a more reasonable portion of beef in their Beef Chow Fun (glass noodles with beef). At $15 after tax, getting just a few small pieces of beef feels overpriced. I ordered it twice, but I think I would enjoy it much more if it were priced around $9.99 to $13 (before tax) with a more generous serving of beef, rather than just glass noodles.
