The fish and chips were kinda weird with the sweet breading and cumbersome to eat, but overall it was pretty good. Servers were kind, although a bit slow towards the end and one of the managers kept looking over at me while I was just quietly trying to enjoy my meal (I'm not exactly the most outgoing, extroverted person and keep to myself). Not that I've been to many seafood places here, but what they had seemed quite good and quite fresh for being in a landlocked state
We went for a date night and after we ordered a bottle of wine, side salad, a pasta dish and fish and chips, the bill came out to $132.00 which is a fair price for what we ordered, however our service was lacking maybe because we came in after 8:30 on a week day and the restaurant was winding down. What got me confused was our gratuity was added in already and there was an additional service fee both with tax and fees pushed the bill to over $175.00 which for wine, pasta and fish and chips felt high to us. I inquired about the additional fee and it was described as a way to not have to remake menu's more often when prices change. That's on odd answer for a menu that also has MP pricing for highly fluctuations in seafood pricing. When I mentioned that to the waiter he said well when Lone Tree dropped their additional taxes for restaurants, the management decided to keep the fee to help with costs. I guess that's okay if you want to compete in the local market with $25.00 fish and chips, the added fee does factor in the price, and we will most likely not return as a result of it. Probably the added fee and pre-calculated gratuity may have an impact with the locals. Especially when Jack's Seafood and Steak House opens where the old Mimi's Cafe was and they don't charge $35.00 for Fish and Chips with tax and added fees.
We have been to this restaurant before and always enjoyed it. Tonight was a definite disappointment. Fish was dry, potatoes were burnt, and our food took forever to arrive. seems the menu had changed also.
While not the cheapest restaurant, you do get what you pay for. Delicious oysters, always fresh and with tons of variety, filling clam chowder, and a nice local tap list. The staff seems knowledgeable and can tell you all about the different oysters and other various seafood options.
