Santana Beach Restaurant - Mamallapuram

Visit on 06.05.2017. From outside looks little run down but my perception changed as I step in to rooftop restaurant. Very beautiful beach front view. Love the ambiance n the unique decor too. No words to describe the food.. Ordered squid calamari, tawa chicken n grill fish too. Everything was perfectly matched to my taste. Service is excellent too. Tumbs up to the team. Their do have chalet for rental. Very clean n comfortable too. Will b back again Overall top notch

We made the mistake of selecting 5 large prawns and 1 fish between the 3 of us without checking the price up front. We then received a 6k bill which was astonishing. After much arguing they knocked 900 off but still very high. I've had better every day in India since and not even paid half that amount anywhere here. Quality was good but absolutely ripping off tourists.

900 Rupies for a terrible cooked fish. The fish looked not fresh and the vegetables just a little. I didn't eat because I was scared to become sick.

Excellent lime soda, airy roof terrace. BUT my wife had grilled crab. Looked good on arrival, but appeared to have lost a lot of meat (compared to crab eaten elsewhere). Bad value. My prawns in garlic sauce was average. Chips soggy. They add "service" to the bill. The "card machine wasn't working " Not impressed.

We stopped here for an(overpriced) beer in the afternoon, thought the menu looked ok and the view over the beach was lovely so came back at night, when it was dark and so not much of a view. The waiter tried to pressure us into the fresh fish/prawns even though we told him several times we just wanted to eat off the menu. He seemed put out by that. The food was quite reasonable in quality if rather small portions for the price. We were surprised to have an extra charge on our bill which he said was service tax, although the service was pretty poor compared to other places we have eaten at in India and certainly not service with a smile. Both disappointed and determined not to come back again!
