Easy to walk in at 5:00 during the weekday. The service is excellent. Nice ambiance. Unfortunately, the lasagna wasn’t that great. It was quite gummy and seemingly undercooked at the bottom. A bit on the drier side with béchamel sauce. $17 dollars for a non-alcoholic negroni seemed a bit excessive, even by NY standards. Torrisi and L’atrusi are worth repeating, but I Sodi seemed more of a one-and-done thing. Maybe their other pasta dishes are better.
Okay, first thing 's first the must have lasagna is not a must have. It 's good, but it wont blow you away. I found the lasagna noodles to be a tad overcooked (not al dente), but I got the impression that that 's by choice. This place is very intentional about everything which is a compliment! The service, the atmosphere, the menu, the wine it 's all dialed in. My wife has a special with truffles that was delicious. We also shared and thoroughly enjoyed the artichoke salad, floorless chocolate tart, and a scoop of gelato. The chocolate tart with a scoop of gelato was easily the biggest showstopper if you 're in the neighborhood around 830 or 9 pm, stop by just to see if there 's any room left on the waitlist so you can get dessert. Overall, I felt the meal was a tad overhyped, but I 'm not going to let the raving of some journalists lower my review score it 's still a five star experience. Just don 't show up expecting to eat the best meal of the year.
I mean, it's good. Is it worth a potentially 4 hour wait on any random night? Emphatically, no.
At long last I got a res at the famed sister restaurant to Via carota, and boy oh boy is this the moody west village restaurant of your date night dreams. There’s something about the single row of tables, coupled with a gaggle of characters including investment bankers, young couples, old couples, new friends, old friends. The lasagna here is absolutely to die for, almost like a savory cake with sauce and decadent beefy flavor instead of a slice of sugar flour and frosting. Artichoke appetizer not to be missed. pork chop is a stunner. Go here to see and be seen.
