After seeing this coffee shop on every Paris travel vlog, I decided to try it out. As iced coffees are unusual in Paris, and were much needed in the 30 degree heat, I settled for an iced latte €5.50 , which I felt was reasonably priced for a drink in central Paris. The latte was good, but nothing extraordinary the problem was the service. Bored baristas stood behind the counter, talking to each other and laughing with each other about my average French. I took my drink to go and walked around for a while, but was disappointed as there was no outdoor seating in the establishment which I felt was a bit odd, seeing that cafes with much cheaper menus in Paris had at least a few tables. Anyway, the cafe is alright if you're craving something cold, but something I probably won't get again.
Service was terrible. The Turkish eggs were ice cold and overcooked, served with a tiny piece of Melba toast. The salad that was supposed to come with the plate but was nowhere to be seen. The servers didn’t seem to care about anything except chatting with each other. Spend you money elsewhere.
Racist and homophobic, Thierry, the waiter treated us horrible. We sat down he said “quoi” like “what” like what were we doing there. A latin gay couple. 5mins later he brought the menu literally threw it on the table and said “get something now I dont have time”. We wanted to eat and drink. He was rushing us into taking a “spritz or a coffee” we were not interested and wanted to look at the menu. To which he responded I have no time and Im busy followed by a “degage” the equivalent of gtfo in French. It is the most racist/homophobic situation I have ever had in Paris. Disgusting place and staff. Not recommended at all! He said he was the boss.
We always stroll in Palais Royal at some point on our trips to Paris. It is always a treat. One thing that is usually a miss in Paris are espresso drinks. Espressos are too long, the coffee quality is very poor so the espressos are very bitter. French cafes do not know how to make Cappucinos. It is funny how people in France think they have good coffee (by the way I am French, now live in California and lived 2 years in Rome... but compared to Italy of course, or California or Spain...coffee drinks are very poor. This is why Cafe Kitsune is such a nice find. Located in Palais Royal is a big plus but their cappucinos are exceptional, their espresso too and they also have an absolutely excellent matcha latte with no sugar in the matcha that is of premium quality. A real enjoyment, finally, in Paris
