Only thing I will warn is either go early or call before hand and get a reservation! This place has limited number of seats and they fill up fast! But oh so worth it!
Hands down the best sushi I’ve had in the area, or honestly ever! It was so fresh and the ingredients were unique. Got a bottle of cab, truffle salmon app, seaweed salad, miso soup, ultimate rainbow, and spicy himachi rolls — for just over $100. All awesome, great service. Will be coming back for sure!!!
City Market Sushi has a unique, dark, and cozy atmosphere that sets it apart from typical sushi restaurants, which was a pleasant surprise. The menu is smaller than many others, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. To start, I ordered the garlic edamame, which was roasted in a garlic soy sauce and topped with garlic chips. It arrived warm and was delicious, perfectly salted with just a hint of heat—definitely one of the best edamame dishes I’ve ever had. Next, I tried the Mad Salmon roll, featuring spicy tuna and avocado wrapped in soy paper, topped with spicy salmon, wasabi aioli, and jalapeño. It was incredibly tasty and refreshing. Following that was the Kamikaze roll, which included tuna, salmon, crab, and avocado, all tempura-fried and topped with sriracha aioli, tobiko, and eel sauce. While it was good, it wasn't the best rendition I've tried; the tempura gave it a slightly toasted flavor that I didn't love. The highlight for me was the Ultimate Rainbow roll, which had snow crab, avocado, and cucumber wrapped in soy paper, with each piece topped with a different seafood—tuna, salmon, yellowtail, red snapper, scallop, or shrimp—along with a wasabi yuzu sauce. This was probably my favorite of the three rolls. The variety made it feel like I was enjoying six different types of sushi in one dish, and I would definitely order it again. To finish off the meal, I had the green tea crème brûlée, which was an excellent dessert. It wasn't overly sweet and had a subtle green tea flavor, complemented by the creaminess of the custard and the crunchy brûlée topping. A bonus point for City Market Sushi is that they use real, fresh wasabi, unlike many other places that rely on the tube-paste variety. You can really taste the difference. Overall, I highly recommend City Market Sushi as a cozy spot for great sushi!
This is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to, and I've tried quite a few! They offer excellent fusion options, and both the service and food quality are top-notch. I would have given it five stars if it weren’t a bit on the pricey side, but I absolutely love their sushi and would definitely recommend it to anyone in the downtown Raleigh area! The lychee sake is also a must-try!
Upon being in downtown on a Saturday. We wanted to go to a quiet restaurant and were interested in sushi. Tucked away in City Market, we came here. They gave a decent selection of unique rolls. A little too much tempura options for a sushi spot. They have a small amount of seating inside and tend to require reservations. I would not say the best sushi in Raleigh, but it is quite good. I’d come back here.
