As for the mains (cue the drum roll), I opted for the spice-rubbed wagyu fillet with a rich jus, while my partner enjoyed the beef ragout pappardelle. Everything was impeccable. We savored every bite, and the sides—a refreshing salad to balance out the meat and incredible onion rings—were the perfect finishing touch. Seriously, those onion rings could be a meal on their own! We were a bit heartbroken that we couldn’t finish them. Robe, you should be proud because Sails deserves to be at the top of your list. I would recommend it to anyone!
I visited Robe for a wedding and was advised to try the lobster, which is the town's signature dish. I pre-ordered the lobster, and upon our arrival at Sails, we were seated promptly. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive. In addition to the lobster, we ordered two sides, a bottle of wine, a ribeye steak, and started off with half a dozen oysters. The food was very fresh and well-prepared. While the lobster was a bit tough, it was still quite enjoyable. My partner thought the steak was cooked perfectly. The meal, totaling $250, was on the pricier side, but I would do it again just to experience the local delicacy!
The staff here is incredibly friendly and attentive, providing excellent service. The seafood is impressively fresh; of the two crayfish we tried, the fresh one was exquisite, while the thermidor was a bit less impressive. The seafood platter for two was also delightful. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food, service, location, and ambiance definitely make it worthwhile.
Excellent lunch with attentive service and quality seafood. Value for money in taste, presentation and quantity. Good place to hang out on a wintry day.
In a word, wow. What a stunning restaurant Sails is. On a trip to Robe over the busy Australia Day weekend earlier this year, my partner and I managed to secure a reservation on our final night in town, after the venue was set aside for a wedding/closed the previous evenings. The evening was definitely one to remember. We were seated outside, and on a warm summer's night, it was so nice to relax into some chill time with a cool drink and the buzzy atmosphere of the lively pub across the road half drifting over. There's a great selection of local wines, beautiful seafood, and desserts to die for! The bbq scallops, eggplant zucchini entree, and fig frangipani sweet treat were standout dishes. Also noteworthy is the service the wait staff are personable, helpful and graceful. It takes a lot to etch a perfect experience into someone's memory, and for me, they've done it. Call it crazy, but if I relocate from Adelaide later this year, I may consider driving down the coast from Adelaide for a night just to enjoy an evening there again (restrictions permitting ofc! . Do yourself a massive favour and book in if you're ever in Robe.
