Paid $29 for 4 shrimp that bordered over cooked, than a check dip that was burnt on top. We ordered lobster bisque that had to be send back as it was salty, than we ordered Clam Chowder that was a little cold and overly salty, not as bad as the lobster bisque but still salty. Than waited another 20 min for our main dish... We were the first ones in the door at 5PM. When the food arrived, we absolute hated to complain but it was clear the the ribeye had been under a food lamp for a long time and we ordered mushrooms on top, they were both so salty that we sent it back (We have never done that any any restaurant) But spending $65 on a steak that was cold, way over salted including the mushroom topping was just a little too much. We also ordered two prime rib sandwich's that bordered on over salty, I could only eat one half. We felt so bad, we did not want to return it. We also ordered the macadamia crusted sea bass for $65, what we got looked like chicken fried steak. Once again, we did not want to return it but we could not eat it, as it was way overcooked and tasteless. When you order Sea bass, you expect it to be thick and flaky, this was thin and crunchy. Service was amazing, our server was understanding of the situation and did take off the steak and the soups from the bill, so we were thankful for that. However, at $350 for 4 and Horrible food, this is not even a excusable. Had they not credited the return items we would have been well over $500 for 4 adults. Thank you to Brian our server for making the best out of a bad situation.
We dine in all the time. Generally love the place. Pre-inflation, the portions were bigger for a lesser dollar. They are doing what others are doing. Hey Larsens, just give me the same portions and charge me for it. I don 't like the did they shrink this portion game. Very noticeable on the Flemings House salad, ingredient cutback. Despite this, we will return, we love the food and the ambiance.
Inside was Energetic as far as noise goes. We asked to be on the Patio which was much quieter. We 've only been to Larson 's twice now, but it is fast becoming our local favorite spot for a nice meal. The first time was for my birthday a few weeks ago and we went all out. We had the Spinach Artichoke dip as a starter and I had a Wedge salad and dry aged filet. My wife had a wet aged filet. We had Asparagus and creamed spinach and finished up with the Butter Cake. Everything was delicious and the service was on point; attentive, but not overbearing. Last night we changed it up a bit. We stayed with the Spinach Artichoke dip to start and I still had a wedge, but my wife went with the Tri Tip/Baby Back rib combo with Asparagus and I had the Miso Chilean Sea Bass. I also ordered the creamed spinach again. This time we finished with the Cheesecake. Again, the service was good and the food well executed and tasty. After a couple of visits, I 'd say that overall, I really like this place, but am not sure it 's quite up to Mastro 's standards, but it 's closer and a bit more affordable. It 's still a premium priced restaurant, so don 't come thinking you 're going to get an affordable family dinner. So far, all the proteins have been perfectly prepared across several varieties. The salad and sides were very good, although I think the creamed spinach is a bit salty. I don 't normally add salt to any of my food, so am sensitive to it, so it may just be me. Also worth noting, they like to prepare Asparagus to leave a bit of crunch to it. I 'm fine with it, but my wife would have preferred it to be cooked a bit more. She doesn 't like Al Dente pasta either. Going forward, I 'll just ask that they cook hers a little longer. I think Larsen 's delivers a great dining experience and is certainly one of the top spots to dine at in east Ventura County.
We were celebrating our friends birthdays and the evening was wonderful. The service and food was great!!! We always love coming to Larsen's for special occasions!!! It's our favorite place. We know we will have a wonderful meal!!!
Last night my husband ordered the burger. He loved it. One of the best burgers he has every had. I had the salmon, it was cooked perfectly. My husband had a great margarita, and i had an exeptional glass of wine. Our dining experience was outstanding both with the food and the amazing service. We love this restaurant
