Maybe it wasn't washed off before cooking, at least the rice made a bad...overall impression on me and was also inedible in the hot sauce because of the pungent bad smell emanating from the rice. The cooking degree of the pieces of meat varied between three different toughness states. It was supposed to be an argentine point steak (hip), probably from different cattle? The vegetable components left a lot to be desired: woody leek, floury tomato. The few slices of paprika were okay. Positive: the overall spiciness was alright and according to my wishes. The service was prompt and friendly. Because most of the food and the drink was so terrible and the service was nice, I didn't bring myself to complain about any of the shortcomings but paid without eating or drinking. The few other guests around me seemed to enjoy their stuff. I can't understand how this place got a certificate of excellence for 2018 and so many good reviews. I visited this place as it was one of the top TripAdvisor locations in the area at this time and I will certainly not come again. I'm experienced with cuisine from India and Sri Lanka in particular, also in other german cities, and I find this offering to be a huge disgrace to the casual guest and the fine art of cooking. I can only warn everyone to not visit this restaurant.
After extensively researching online for the best curry in Stuttgart, I decided to check out La Bamboo. I must admit I was surprised at the extremely high ratings that it received I live in the UK and so am accustomed to very high quality...curries. I would rate this restaurant as average only for the following reasons: The starters were simply not Sri Lankan/Indian; they were just re-heated deep-fried frozen snack foods. The popadoms were very good, but came with Thai Sweet Chilli sauce I asked for at least mango chutney (which was on the menu elsewhere) but it was a flat-out no. I would have thought squeezing some mango chutney into a small bowl was possible... The mains were decent (much better than the starters, and actually Indian), especially the chicken curry. However the spice levels were fairly low (even for the Sri Lanka scharfe' option) and I would say the curries were more generic Indian than south-Indian or Sri Lankan The service was average at best (beer orders were forgotten) and no flexibility was possible on the menu, which was rather disappointing Overall I would say this is not a bad option, particularly for Stuttgart where the choice of curry houses is relatively low.
Me and my friends went in this place to have lunch today, attracted by the positive reviews on tripadvisor: this place really satisfied our expectations! First of all the location is really cozy, and the waiter kind and nice. About the food we've chosen three...dishes (one with vegetables, one with fish and one with meat) and we share them. Everything was really good, but the curry beef was absolutely excellent! We also tried the exotic drinks and we strongly advice them. (Maybe, a little improvement can be done in the offer of the desserts).
We've eaten a lot of Indian cuisine but had never tried Sri Lankan and having read the previous reviews we had to visit La Bamboo! The restaurant itself is clean with a minimalist design; some Sri Lankan wall art, elephant ornaments and traditional music help...to create an authentic atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful, the waitress that served us went above and beyond as she was willing to help me practise my language skills by speaking to me in German and then repeating the conversation in English for my co-eater! She was really personable and assisted with our menu choices when my co-eater asked for the beef devil curry with the Sri Lankan level of spicing, she advised that he opt for the medium European spicing instead (and she was right, as that was hot enough for him! The menu is extensive, with the mixed starter being my top recommendation, as it allows you to sample a variety of delicacies (the portions are very generous even when shared The main dishes are served with either rice or noodles, so there was no need to order either as a side. We forgot to order the bread but we were so full we wouldn't have had room for it! I had the fish curry which was delicious, the onions were really sweet with a hint of coconut in the background, which wasn't at all overpowering. The noodles were tasty and the rice was light, all the flavours were so moreish! The fish was perfectly flaky and I'm informed the beef was of great quality. Sadly we didn't have any room for dessert though! Two things worth noting: 1. There is some on street parking within moments of the restaurant (which was lucky as we arrived in the middle of a storm 2. The restaurant doesn't accept payment by card, so make sure you take cash!
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner- the waitress was so helpful and patient and helped us order the perfect dishes- vegetable buryani and kandy chicken with dosai. The food tasted so good, I cannot express it with words. Definitely worth the visit. We’ll...be back.
