We were invited to dinner in the CBD in Sydney at King 143, a restaurant that we had not been aware of previously. After missing the entrance twice, we finally found it and went up the stairs to find a smart venue which would fit around 50 odd patrons. The décor is modest however functional and the atmosphere is good. We were greeted by the head waiter and shown to our seats which were very comfortable and with enough room not to be too tight. The food menu and wine list truly exceeded our expectations in that the prices were modest for both food and drink, a very pleasant surprise for the CBD area.Whilst neither list were extensive it was full of character, imagination and quality and after ordering and the food arrived, it was nothing short of excellent. The wine too was a great example of a red at a very competitive price where you would probably pay twenty dollars more at other establishments. The service was quick, efficient and friendly and was almost seamless which is what you want when dining out in a group.I would recommend King143 and am looking forward to my next visit there.
We were very impressed with King 143. It is a quiet and unassuming little restaurant that is perfect for a romantic meal. The food was delicious and the service attentive but unobtrusive. The wine list was not bad with a fair selection.Very few restaurants seem to be capable of providing a romantic setting these days. They are often noisy and the waiters are rushed off their feet. This one though delivers and I would have no hesitation in returning.
We came here to check out the location and the menue for a future function. Though the actual restaurant is a little outdated and feels like it needs a good clean throughout - the menue sounded exciting and the waitress was very pleasant. The French influence can be felt through the wine selection as well as the food choices. The wine we chose was simply outstanding. The entree was very flavoursome - squid spring rolls; the main was nice but was missing a little something - deboned chicken with crab wontons, and the dessert of creme brulee was lovely - though the icecream was a little bit bland. Overall the food was good enough to want to come back so we made the reservation for the function. They also provide some hot bread and a chocolate Petit fours at the end of dinner - lovely addition. Overall lovely and quiet - just needs a little updating on the decor.
This is the second time I have been to the restaurant with business clients and again, everyone enjoyed the atmosphere, decor and food. An unusual combination between French and Asian - but it works. I had the French Onion Soup and the Duck (typical French) with a bottle of French Chablis - all of which was very good. This restaurant is small, intimate and quiet as opposed to stainless steel, floor board modern and very noisy large restaurants.I have already booked my next client luncheon to make a perfect trifecta. Excellent food (service is OK - nothing great) but the location and decor very good. Surprisingly the price was OK.
