Polad Hashimov was born on January 2, 1975 in Vandam settlement of Gutgashen district (currently Gabala district). His father, Israyil Hashimov, was a metallurgist and worked first as an engineer, and then as a shift leader and workshop leader at the Sumgayit Aluminum Plant. He died in 2005 after a long illness. His mother, Samaya Hashimova, worked as an ordinary employee at that factory. Polad Hashimov 's grandfather was a veteran of the 2nd World War and it was he who named his grandson Polad. Polad Hashimov had 2 sisters Arzu and Kamala, and 1 brother Ilham. In July 1976 when Polad Hashimov was 6 months old, the Hashimov family came from Gabala district to Sumgayit city and began to live in the 13th microdistrict of the city. Polad Hashimov participated in the battles for the defense of Marzili and Novruzlu villages of Agdam region during the First Karabakh War in November 1992.[2] Polad Hashimov, who was training as a member of the 702nd motorized rifle brigade, fought in the battles for the Guzgü , Koroglu and Omar posts in the Murov mountain range during the Murovdag operation in February 1994.[2] In the same year, he was sent by the Ministry of Defense for three months of training at the Infantry School located in Tuzla district of Istanbul.[2] After the end of the First Karabakh War, Polad Hashimov constantly served in the military units on the frontline.[2] He served for many years in the military units of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces in the Murovdag range.[2] During 1995 2017, Polad Hashimov worked in various positions from the position of Motor Rifle Platoon Commander to the position of Military Unit Commander.[2] Polad Hashimov received the military rank of major when he was 28 years old, and on June 24, 2003, he was awarded the For Military Services medal according to Decree No. 887 of the President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.[9] 6 years later, Polad Hashimov received the military rank of Lieutenant Colonel and on June 25, 2009, he was awarded the For the Fatherland medal by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.[10] In June 2014, he was awarded the 3rd degree Order For Service to the Fatherland according to President Ilham Aliyev 's Decree No. 575 for his distinction while performing his official duties and tasks assigned to the military unit.
