I had reservations for two people at 5:30 pm on a Thursday prior to attending a show at the Stanley Theatre. We ordered the pre-theatre menu which is available between 5:30 pm and 6 pm. West is conveniently just across the street from the Stanley Theatre.A complimentary quinoa-based amuse bouche was served which was good. We both had the kale and Brussels sprout salad which had a tasty dressing. For the entrees, I had the potato ravioli with prawns and a butter sauce. My friend had the wild B.C. salmon. We enjoyed both entrees. For dessert, I had the pineapple banana cake and my friend had the passionfruit condensed milk cake roll. Both desserts were just the right portion size and sweetness. A complimentary petit fours was also served.Service was friendly and very good. I have been to West several times before but it has been a few years since my last visit. It’s good to see that the restaurant’s high level of standard is still the same. Along with a glass of wine, a non-alcoholic drink, and a coffee, the total cost of the meal was $120 before tip.
Upscale spot suitable for dinner before attending the Stanley Theater shows across the street. Pre theater menu includes a salad, entree and dessert. Extensive (and pricey) wine selection. Friendly and professional wait staff.
A slightly high end style restaurant that could stifle or subdue those who are intimidated easily by overly professional service that can take itself a little too seriously at times - I mean who (other than 007 and the bar man here) really cares if a vodka martini is better shaken or stirred. And whats going on with those decorative glass "objects" on top of the room divider!!However having decided we were just going to enjoy ourselves and not take this too seriously the staff also relaxed with us and we had the best dinner night of our two week trip to BC and Vancouver. Our server Liz was the best waitress every encountered by living man and really made our visit a hoot - the prefect balance between professionalism and fun keeping the night rolling at the perfect tempo - we awarded her our unofficial "Waitress of the Year" certificate. The food is a very well done in a sort of high end way with nice portion sizes, a bit of theatre and they clearly take great care in everything they do.The only negative could be it's not cheap, but we found on our trip that anything good in the Vancouver area is very expensive so I'm not going to compare it to prices elsewhere as that's not relevant. All in all a great experience. And if anyone can tell the difference between a shaken and stirred martini I'll eat my hat.
I took my son and his friends out for dinner. It was excellent. Fresh, delicious food including a chicken so tender we were all amazed. The kale salad actually got passed around the table because everyone wanted to eat it.
